What Your Results Mean

The goal of this scoring is to help you identify areas for growth to become better and more aware in how you lead yourself – which will quickly and ultimately give you the foundation for how to successfully lead and influence others in today’s world. It’s a snapshot and a rather good opportunity for some self-reflection. Don’t stress about it – just give your overall impression of how your rate for each of those questions. If you don’t like the scores, it’s just an indication that you can raise your awareness and that you still have lots of potential to develop.

 

SCORE OF 0 TO 30 

You’re probably out of balance and a bit lost – or even majorly, up to the point that you’re asking yourself if you’re in the right life.  Keeping a positive outlook and healthy lifestyle might be challenging. Maybe you’re overworked and feel torn between lots of obligations.

Personal leadership seems to be rather new to you and maybe you have taken other people, society’s expectations and rules too much on board. You might listen too much to others and might have lost the connection with yourself and your potential quite some time ago. Many of your relationships might be in need of repair.

Here’s what you can do right away:

  1. It’s time for a more in-depth assessment of your life.Take some time and look at what is really important in your life from where you stand today. This will give you a better idea of what are outside expectations you have not bought into (even from yourself, your spouse, society, your family, your boss) and make room for what you really would love to choose.
  2. Start expressing what holds you back. What kind of worries or fears come up on a daily basis. Take a journal, observe yourself daily and make notes. This will slowly and steadily raise your awareness. Eventually you might even start expressing it publicly.
  3. Monitor your days:If your productivity sucks, start monitoring what you do for at least 3 days. This will give you a great insight of how you spend your time, if you set (the right) priorities, how much time you waste (we all do) and what the outcome of your days is. Take the snapshot, determine 2-3 things you can change immediately (shorter meetings, not attend all meetings you’re invited to, working in iterations instead of fully planned through projects just to mention a few)

SCORE OF 31 TO 60 

You’re on the path – probably still in rather rough waters in some areas of your life with quite some room for growth.

Life seems good, particularly when you’re at the upper end of the scale here, and still, you realize (if you’re honest) that you’re not really happy with all areas of your life. “Can’t have everything!”, you might say. Hmmm, debatable.

Surely you know that you have so much more potential for success AND a fulfilled life. The overwhelming amount of “stuff” coming your way and the constant changes on all levels seem to be unmanageable and still you’re trying to get control over everything. Generally people follow your lead, but you will find that they do because you’re the boss, not because you inspire them genuinely.

Here’s what you can do right away:

  1. Go within: Take a good look at yourself, your perception of yourself and your relationships (I bet that you did not score an 9 or 10 high here) you can do so while getting the closest people around you to give you some honest feedback as a start. Connecting with yourself is the key and to find out what patterns are in your way to really great relationships. Are you really listening? Do you keep wanting to be right? Identify the 1 or 2 which are really causing trouble and start changing them.
  2. Take care of yourself: have breaks, make sure you enjoy some time in nature or with doing simply nothing, sleep enough and keep your screen time outside of work down. Eat good food and find some space to cultivate a sense of joy and peace in your life.
  3. Learn something new: in whatever area you scored low (or even 2 or 3 areas), look out for something for you to learn to make sure you can progress. Hire a coach, book an online course, read a book. Any of it will help you developing a different perspective and enhance your horizon.

Alternatively: unlearn something in your life you realize is a complete BRULE (an acronym for Bullshit Rule (pardon my French) ;-)): this could be that you have to know everything as the leader of your team or your organisation. Rather start asking questions and show that you’re a learner, not a know-it-all. Or stop working like a horse to show everybody what a hard worker you are. Rather look after yourself and your team or organisation, so that everybody can deliver the highest performance and not permanently exhaust themselves.

SCORE 61 TO 90 

Wow – you’ve got it nailed down. Remember, this is a snapshot and the rating (particularly how we see ourselves) will fluctuate and change. You’re definitely on YOUR path and probably already a high achiever or even high performer (reaching and sustaining long-term success while also maintaining well-being and positive relationships), who is inspiring others on a regular basis and has a (more or less) clear strategy as a leader. In your situation it is about fine-tuning…unless you scored really low in one or two of the areas – which means you could do with more balance in leading yourself! If you scored low on energy, you won’t be able to uphold this level of performance for long…if your vision is hardly developed you might lose a lot of your momentum and power.

If you scored high evenly for all questions – congratulations! Now it’s time for Personal Mastery. Which will catapult you right into living and having the life and career that you really want!

Things you can do immediately:

  1. Set a daily intention and a message to yourself each morning: for making sure that your days are going brilliantly, give yourself some 20 minutes in the morning to consider what’s your message for yourself for the day. What can you get excited about that day, what kind of person could you be today (and why)? What could be a situation that stresses you out and how could you handle it? What action could you take today to demonstrate excellence? How would you know that the day would be a great success?
  2. Score yourself at least weekly:What things have you learned in the last week. What was your main struggle and how would you advice anyone in your team to deal with it? What did you learn about others (friends, teams, customers, loved ones)? What decision could you have taken to make your life better or to move ahead faster? How did you score in the most important areas of your life: health, love, family, friends, job, friends, your mission (could be your job), finances, learning, experiences (outside of the job), emotional. How productive were you, how well did you influence others and how well did you manage your energy. You get my gist….
  1. Transform: When you’re at that stage of your personal leadership journey, learning will only bring you that far – it’s time for leaps! And that is only possible when we know ourselves quite well and know what we choose to shift. This can be a shift from a brain-driven and analytical leadership to a wholehearted one. This can be by identifying and shifting (transforming) those parts of your inner belief system which are hindering you rather than benefitting you and which will empower you to develop a new way of how you view yourself and the world around you. This opens opportunities. Ultimately it is about shifting the very core of who you are as a person – to the one you choose to be. This very often only works with impulses and inspiration from the outside, with a little bit of help from a mentor or coach, who can mirror, guide and crack those parts open you did not even know they existed to bring forth your full potential and power.
